Syowa Station, Antarctica (69.0 S, 39.6 E)

Overview of Syowa Station. The mm-wave spectrometer is operating in the dark-blue building at the center of this picture.

Syowa Station is a Japanese permanent research station on East Ongul Island, Antarctica. The millimeter-wave spectrometer in Syowa was installed in January 2011by the 52nd Japanese Anterctic Research Expedition in collaboration with National Institute of Polar Research (NIPR).
In Syowa Station, since power resource is limited, we newly developed a small and power-saving superconductive mm-wave spectrometer. Stratospheric Ozone and NO (nitrogen oxide) in the mesosphere and lower thermosphere have been observed in 250 GHz-band receiver since 2012.
This project has been implemented as a part of the 8th and 9th term prioritized research program of National Institute of Polar Research.
